How to Check Direction for Home Using Google Maps

July 2, 2024 – Google Maps has become a versatile tool not only for navigation but also for various everyday tasks, including finding the direction your home faces. Whether you’re considering interior design based on Vastu Shastra principles or planning to optimize your garden’s sunlight exposure, Google Maps offers a convenient method to determine the orientation of your home. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to use Google Maps for this purpose.

Using Google Maps to Find Home Direction

Google Maps provides a user-friendly interface to explore maps and satellite imagery. Here’s how you can check the direction your home faces:

  1. Open Google Maps: Launch the Google Maps app on your smartphone or visit maps.google.com on your computer.
  2. Search for Your Address: Type your home address in the search bar at the top of the screen and press Enter.
  3. Enable Satellite View: In the bottom left corner of the screen, click on the “Satellite” button. This switches the map to satellite imagery mode.
  4. Zoom In on Your Home: Use your fingers or the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in until you can clearly see your home and its surroundings.
  5. Identify Your Home’s Orientation: Look closely at the map to identify the layout of your home. The top of the map represents north. Determine which direction the front of your home faces based on surrounding landmarks or street orientation.
  6. Use the Compass Icon: In the bottom right corner of the screen, click on the compass icon. This activates the compass mode, which shows a small compass on the map. The top of the compass always points to magnetic north.
  7. Align the Map: Rotate the map until the direction your home faces becomes clear. The map’s compass can help you identify the precise orientation of your home, such as north, south, east, or west.
