Sixteen somber fast story

(Solah Somvar Vrat Katha)

Vrat Katha => Many women in Hinduism observe sixteen Mondays. If possible on this sixteen Monday fast, you should start from the month of Shravan and do this fast for 16 consecutive Mondays. Or Monday’s fast is also started from Ā Chaitra, Vaisakh, Karthik and the first Monday of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Magh. It is said that by observing this fast till 16 Monday, all wishes are fulfilled. The story of sixteen Monday fast is as follows. Once Shiva and Mata Parvati were roaming over the death world. While roaming, he came to a city called Amravati in Vidarbhash. There was a beautiful Shiva temple in that city, so Mahadev Ji started living there with Parvati. One day in talk, Parvati Ji asked Shivji to play Chaucer. Shivji agreed and Chaucer started playing.

  • At the same time, the temple priest came for the daily aarti. Parvati asked the priest “Tell us who will win in Chaucer”. That priest was a devotee of Lord Shiva and immediately left in his mouth, “Mahadev Ji will win”. At the end of Chaucer’s game, Parvati Ji won and Shivji lost. Parvati Ji got angry and wanted to curse the priest, only then Shivji stopped him and said that it is a game of luck, it is not his fault. Nevertheless, Mother Parvati cursed him to be a leper and he got leprosy. For a long time, he suffered from leprosy. One day an apsara came to the temple to worship Shiva and he saw the leprosy of that priest. The nymph asked the priest the reason for leprosy, so he narrated the whole incident to him.
  • Apsara said to the priest, “You must fast for sixteen Mondays to get rid of this leprosy”. The priest asked the method of fasting. Apsara said, “On Monday, take a clean wash and make a cloth in half a kilo of flour, do three parts of that feather, worship Lord Shiva during the Pradosh period, one-third of this feast is seen in Aarti. As a prasad, adopt the same method till sixteen Monday, make a churma with a quarter of wheat flour on the 17th, and offer it to Shivji and distribute it among the people, leprosy of you Will go away. In this way, by fasting on sixteen Mondays, his leprosy went away and he started living happily.

That priest was a devotee of Lord Shiva and immediately left in his mouth, “Mahadev Ji will win”. At the end of Chaucer’s game, Parvati Ji won and Shivji lost. One day an apsara came to the temple to worship Shiva and he saw the leprosy of that priest. The nymph asked the priest the reason for leprosy, so he narrated the whole incident to him.

One day Shiva and Parvati returned to that temple again and saw the priest in perfect health. Parvati ji asked that priest the secret of health. The priest said that he fasted on 16 Mondays which caused his leprosy to go away. Parvati ji was very happy to hear about this fast. He also observed this fast and with this his son returned home and became obedient. Karthikeya asked his mother the reason for his mental change so that he returned home. Parvati told him about the sixteen Monday fast behind all this. Karthikeya was very happy to hear this.

  • Karthikeya performed that vow to meet a Brahmin friend who went abroad and on Monday, his friend returned from abroad to meet him. When his friend asked the reason for this rule, Kartikeya told the glory of sixteen Monday fast. Hearing this, that Brahmin friend also thought to keep a sixteen Monday fast for marriage. One day the king was preparing for his daughter’s marriage. Many princes came to marry the daughter of the king. The king placed a condition that whichever person would put an elephant garland around his neck, his daughter would be married. That Brahmin was also the same and luckily that elephant put a garland in the neck of that Brahmin and according to the condition, the king got his daughter married to that Brahmin.
  • One day the princess asked the Brahmin “what did you do that Hathini left all the other princes and put a garland in your neck”. The Brahmin said that my friend Karthikeya had asked me to fast for sixteen Mondays and I had given me those fasts. I got you only by observing those fasts ā€. The princess was very impressed to hear this and she also fasted sixteen Mondays to get a son. Consequently, a beautiful son was born to him and when the son grew up, the son asked, “Mother, what have you done that you got a son like me”. He also told his son the glory of Solah Somvar Vrat Katha on sixteen Mondays.

After listening to this, he too kept this fast for the desire of the Rajpat. At the same time, when a king was looking for a bride for the marriage of his daughter, people said that the child was suitable for marriage. As soon as the king received this information, he married his daughter with that child. After some years when the king died, he became the king because that king had no son. Even after getting the Rajpat, he continued to fast on Monday. One day on the 17th Monday, his wife also asked his wife to come to the Shiva temple for worship but instead of coming herself, she sent her to the maid. After the Brahmin son’s worship ended, Akashvani said, “Keep your wife away from your palace, otherwise you will be destroyed”. The Brahmin son was very surprised to hear this.

  • On returning to the palace, he also told his courtiers that the courtiers said that it is because of which he has got the coronation that he will get him out of the palace. But that Brahmin son drove him out of the palace. That princess hungry thirsty came to an unknown city. There, an old lady was going to the market to sell yarn. As soon as he saw the princess, he asked her to help him with his business. The princess also placed a basket on her head. After walking some distance, a storm came and the basket went away. Now that old woman started crying and she considered the princess to be wretched and asked to leave.
  • After that she reached a Teli’s house. After reaching there, all the oil pots went away and the oil started flowing. The Teli also considered him to be a wretch and drove him away from there. After that she reached a beautiful pond and as soon as she started drinking water, insects started running in that water and all the water became foggy. Cursing his misfortune, he drank dirty water and slept under the tree. As soon as she slept under the tree, all the leaves of that tree fell. Now the tree she went to fell.
  • Seeing this, the people went to the temple priest. The priest, considering the pain of the princess, said to her: Daughter, you stay with my family, I will keep you like my daughter, you will not have any problem in my ashram ā€. In this way, she started living in the ashram. Now whatever food she cooks or water brings insects in her. Seeing this, the priest was surprised and said to him, “Daughter, what kind of anger is this on you which is such a condition of yours”. He told the same story not known in Shiv Pooja. That priest worshiped Shiva and asked him to fast for sixteen Mondays. This will definitely give him relief.

He fasted on sixteen Mondays and on the 17th of Monday, the Brahmin son started thinking about him “He must have said, I should look for him”. So he sent his man and asked him to find his wife. To find his men, they reached the priest’s house and they came to know about the princess there. He asked the priest to take the princess home but the priest refused, saying, “Lose your king so that you can come and take it”. The king himself came there and brought the princess back to his palace. In this way, whoever observes this sixteen Monday fast fulfills all his wishes.
